India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi is known for his international  tours, while some people call it a waste of money, while according to some it helps India to develop better relationships with different countries across the world. 

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a 3 day long visit to Europe. Before starting his trip, PM Modi has said that he is looking forward to strengthening the cooperation of India with Europe. His three-day visit comes in support of India's neutral stand on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. 

Starting from 2nd May, Modi has scheduled a visit to Germany, France and Denmark. On the first day Prime Minister Modi landed in Berlin, Germany on the invitation of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. PM Modi held talks with Chancellor Olaf Scholz, which will help both the countries to continue moving on the path of friendly relations. The two leaders were also reportedly seen talking to the CEO’s of big companies of both the countries.Prime Minister Narendra Modi was welcomed by the Indians living in Germany at Hotel Adlon Kempinski in Berlin. Many children along with their parents were present at the hotel, waving their hands at the Prime Minister's arrival. The people chanted " Vande Mataram" and " Bharat Mata ki Jai" on seeing the Prime Minister. Modi later also addressed the Indian Community in Germany where he said that India is in favour of peace and wants the Russia- Ukraine War to end as no side will win or lose, it's  just the citizens of both the countries who’ll suffer.

After Germany, on 3rd May PM travelled to Denmark’s capital Copenhagen, where he will first have a meeting with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. Later, he will also take part in the 2nd India-Nordic Summit (meeting) along with Prime Ministers of Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Sweden and Norway and hold talks for better relations of these countries with India. Modi will also interact with Indian Citizens living there.

After his two-day visit ends in Denmark, PM Modi will stop over in France for a short duration while returning back to India. He will meet French President Emmanuel Macron, who has just recently been re-elected for his second term as the French President. Other than congratulating him in-person, PM Modi also wants to hold talks which will help in ensuring  close friendship between the two countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi on Saturday morning. Frederiksen was received by PM Modi and was greeted with a ceremonial reception by the Indian forces. PM Frederiksen called her visit as a great milestone in the bilateral relations of India and Denmark. Following her grand ceremonial welcome, the Danish PM visited Rajghat and paid her tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. PM Frederiksen also called on Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar before holding bilateral talks with PM Modi. The two sides focused on renewable energy, clean technologies, agriculture, science and technology, digitisation, smart cities, water and waste management during their bilateral talks. So far there is no sign that President Trump is backing away from his tariff policy. For him it has been an article of faith for decades.

And today he threatened China with an additional 50 per cent of tariffs after it retaliated last Friday with 35 per cent against US products.

This is what the spiral of a global trade war looks like with devastating consequences for millions of people around the world.

The day began with what was described as a ‘bloodbath’ on Asian markets.

European markets then mirrored those losses, and for the third day running since the sweeping tariffs were announced, US markets plunged on opening.

Then reports of a 90-day pause in the Tariffs sent stocks back up, before the White House dismissed them as 'fake news', sending them tumbling again.

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer was in the middle of his testimony before the House Ways and Means Committee when President Donald Trump announced that he was pausing his new tariffs on most nations for 90 days.

The president also announced he was raising tariffs on Chinese imports to 125%.

Minutes later, Rep. Steven Horsford, D-Nev., asked Greer whether he knew this pause was under discussion. He blasted the Trump official for either withholding information about the incoming strategy or being completely unaware of it.

“W-T-F! Who’s in charge?” Horsford exclaimed.

“It looks like your boss just pulled the rug out from under you and paused the tariffs, the taxes on the American people. There’s no strategy. You just found out three seconds ago, sitting here, we saw you,” he added.

Greer defended his testimony, saying that he doesn’t disclose his conversations with the president.

“These are real consequences for the American people and small businesses. I had a group of small businesses in my office earlier today talking about the impacts of these tariffs on aluminum and steel. This is amateur hour, and it needs to stop,” the lawmaker responded.

Horsford detailed some of the effects for American consumers from the recent market turmoil caused by the threat of major global tariffs — including losses to retirement funds and college savings funds, and consequences for small businesses.

“If it was a plan, if it was always the plan, how is this not market manipulation?” Horsford asked.

“It's not market manipulation, sir,” Greer said.

“It is not a strategy,” Horsford added.

“We're trying to reset the global trade system,” Greer responded.

Trump said in his Truth Social post that he was authorizing a pause because more than 75 countries had reached out to negotiate trade deals, and that those countries had not retaliated against his moves. The president also said he was lowering reciprocal tariffs to 10% for those countries “effective immediately.”

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called Trump’s global trade war a “successful negotiating strategy” in remarks at the White House after the announcement.

US President Donald Trump has placed a 46% tariff on all goods imported to the US from Vietnam, causing worries for some US businesses and consumers.

About half of Nike and 39% of Adidas trainers are made in Vietnam, and Samsung also has significant production operations in the country.

Vietnam has been hit with a 46% tariff on goods it wants to import to the US. So a pair of trainers that cost £114 before the tariffs, will now face an import cost of £146.

The exact price at a retail store will depend on how much of the cost Nike – or any firm importing to the US – decides to pass on to the customer.
